Today we had six athletes taking part in the Munster Senior & Masters indoor championships in Nenagh. First up was Ronan Foley in the men’s over 35 60m running a time of 8.42. Ronan also ran in the 200m running a time of 28.02 to finish 3rd in the men’s over 35 event. Liam O’Brien opened his indoor campaign by finishing 2nd in his 400m heat and 5th overall in a time of 53.80.
We had two athletes taking part in the senior mens 800m which was one of the races of the day. Ian Tivy and Peter Hanrahan were both running in heat 1. Both went through 400m in 60 seconds with Tivy in 3rd place and Hanrahan back in 5th. Hanrahan made a move to 2nd with 150m to go and with one final kick he took a great win in a good time of 1:59:38. Tivy also finished strong finishing 7th in a time of 2:04:92.
Elton Heffernan and Craig Harrington took to the track later in the evening for the senior mens 1500m. Elton was running his first ever indoor race ever with Craig opening his indoor campaign. In a slow paced, tactical race Elton moved to 4th in the latter stages and held this position to finish in a good time of 4:25:22 with Craig finishing 5th in 4:39:99. All in all a good day out for the club to kick off the indoor season.
Closer to home Tony Kelleher, Brian Maher and Patrick O’Regan took part in the Cork BHAA 4 miler in little island. Tony ran a great race after a spell of absence from the racing scene finishing 10th overall and first in the over 45 category in a time of 21:56. There were good runs also from Brian and Patrick finishing in 29:41 and 31:49 respectively. Well done to all athletes who ran today producing some very encouraging performances with many more to come in the season.
