This month’s interview and profile is with Togher Tiger Mike Dennehy!
When/how/why did you take up running?
Initially just to improve fitness for GAA back in school but caught the bug and was convinced to sign up to athletics by a Tivy Lynchy Jackson and Dineen!
When and why did you join Togher AC?
In 5th year after the lads talked me into running, our coach Steve Macklin had us all represent DCS and Togher that was my first introduction to the club.
What is/are your preferred distance/s?
At the moment, none! 😅
What is your proudest running moment?
No particular moment but we had a very successful cross country team both schools and club which I was proud to be a (minor) part of.
Who is/are your coach/es?
At the moment I’m stuck training alone (having kids/no sleep isn’t conducive to a proper running program) but Tony and Aidan are at the helm and I’m looking forward to getting back running with the group, they are doing great things with everyone!
What is your main running goal for the next 12 months?
Increase mileage and actually enter races this year, get back training with the group.
What is your most memorable race/running moment and why?
As mentioned the juvenile cross country seasons are a fond memory, no particular race but the year we won Silver in the senior schools all Irelands in Belfast was a great year and stands out…. That or the multi events in Waterford 😂😂
What do you like most about Togher AC?
Great group of people, everyone friendly and welcoming to new faces.
What would you say to someone thinking of taking up running?
Start slow and give it a month at least, nobody enjoys running initially until you can hold a conversation while doing it!
And once your enjoying it, run cross country at some stage. It’s the only opportunity to run as a team in athletics and everyone should experience it regardless of level.
Who is your favourite sporting hero?
Has to be the real Ronaldo – even after all the injuries that Brazilian was magic to watch!
What is your favourite food?
Curries definitely
What is your favourite drink?
The Big C 🍻
